It is official: Karoondinha Festival has been canceled. According to Billboard, sources stated “that costs for the event spiraled out of control while ticket sales never met expectations.”
Speculation stirred around social media when it was apparent organizers took down the festival’s website and deleted the Twitter account.
After raising $5 million from local investors to host the event the sibling team, Paul and Kaleena Rallis, began coordinating with Starseed Entertainment to book Chance the Rapper, John Legend, Odesza and The Roots to headline the festival that would take place in July. The foreseeable plan was to expect between 25,000 to 30,000 ticket sales. Virtually, everything looked swimmingly for the siblings as they had booked a solid lineup and had acquired marketing funds. Unfortunately, the numbers were not meeting expectation. Yesterday, Kaleena and Paul made the decision to pull the plug.
There are no details on the timeline for refunds through Eventbrite. Karoondinha joins a list of this years failed festivals including, Pemberton and Fyre festival.
